Hector Ponce de Leon was born on March 26, 1960, to Hector and Amalia Ponce de Leon. He was a graduate of Lamar High School. He met his wife, Ophelia, in 1978 in Houston. They recently celebrated 43 years of marriage this past June and together raised two children, Marisa and Stephen.
Hector built a successful career in outside sales in the construction industry, dedicating over 40 years to his work. Beyond his profession, Hector was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones.
He also had a lifelong passion for golf—a love instilled by his father, who served as the Greenskeeper Supervisor at Hermann Park Golf Course for over 35 years. Hector began playing at the young age of five, joining his father every morning at 5 a.m. on the golf course, creating cherished memories that stayed with him throughout his life.
Hector was also a sports fan who enjoyed watching baseball, golf and football. However, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his 2 grandchildren. He had a special gift for making them laugh with his silly jokes and playful spirit—moments they will always treasure.
Hector is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Hector and Amalia Ponce de Leon.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ophelia, his children Marisa and Stephen, his son-in-law Justin and his treasured grandchildren, Brock (11) and Savannah (4), who brought immense joy to his life; his sister Sylvia, brother Jaime, nieces and nephews.
His warmth, dedication, and love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered. We love you.
A visitation for Hector will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039, followed by a funeral service at 5:30 PM.
