

Helen Meyer Simons, died November 6, 2015,in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Simons III. She was survived by her sons, Thomas A. Simons IV and wife Susan, of Santa Fe, NM; William G. (Bill) Simons and wife Bonnie, of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Tinka Murray and husband, Skipper, of Somerville, TX and Cathryn Simons of Fort Worth, TX; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She was born on July 11, 1920, and raised in Atascosa, Texas, and is the last surviving Meyer of the famed Meyer Pottery, which her father, Gus Meyer, and uncle, Frank Meyer, inherited from their father.
She was graduated from Texas A&I College at Kingsville, TX, where she met and married her husband of 53 years. Together they lived all over Texas, eventually moving to Houston, Texas, where all four children were graduated from high school. She was a charter member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, TX and an active participant in the United Methodist Women’s organization. She also devoted much time to being the president of the successful Restless Legs Syndrome Support group of Houston. Though also involved in various community and school associations, her family was her focus.
There will be a public visitation with the family present from 10:00 to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX. A private graveside service for the family will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charitable organization of your choice.
