Herbert Benjamin Mitchell, 84, passed away on November 29, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1941, in Navasota, Texas, to Matnora Robertson and Austin Mitchell Sr. He accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age. He attended Booker T. Washington High School.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years Earnestine Mitchell; daughters Hervette Mitchell, Sundra Mitchell, and Demina Mitchell; Grandchildren Anwar El-Amin, Kenya Bener, Chanice Nickerson, Dante Nickerson; Great grandchild Easton Washington; siblings Juanita Chandler and Johnny Robertson; Bonus sons Michael Calloway and Caroll Ledet and bonus granddaughters Lauren Robinson and Belen Polanco; sister in laws and brother in laws and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Matnora Robertson and Austin Mitchell Sr; brothers Austin Mitchell Jr. and Richard Mitchell; grandchild Kennard Benjamin Bener.
He was District Director for State Representative Senfronia Thompson for over 50 years. Herbert’s legacy is reflected in the countless lives he touched, the lessons he passed on, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work and wholehearted living.
