In the early morning of Friday, the 17th of May 2024, the world lost one of its brightest lights. Hilary Lane Vaughan, 73, of Houston passed away suddenly with her husband of 39 years, Bruce, by her side.
Hilary was born on the 6th of May 1951, in San Antonio, Texas to Frank B. Vaughan, Jr. and Lane Smith Vaughan. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She practiced as a pharmacist for a period before obtaining her MBA in Accounting from University of Texas at San Antonio. She obtained her Certified Public Accounting license in 1980 and continued to work in that field until her passing.
Hilary married Bruce F. Berie on the 23rd of November 1985. They welcomed their pride and joy, their son Bret, on the 28th of May 1990.
Hilary was a proud, native Texan and carried a strong sense of independence throughout her life. Although, she kept her maiden name mainly because she thought it was "too much work" to change it. She was always up for an adventure, a float in the water, or a glass of good French wine.
Travel was one of her passions. Several weeks per year, she dragged Bruce across the French countryside, enjoying French wine and food and pretending she could speak French. Her charm and smile were always a hit with the locals.
Hilary was truly one of a kind and was deeply loved by her family and a wide circle of friends. Her infectious laugh, wry wit, and huge smile will be missed by so many.
In keeping with her wishes, the family will host a celebration of her life later this summer. In the meantime, please turn on some Robert Earl Keen and raise a cold Blue Moon or a glass of Bandol or brut rose in her honor.
In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider a memorial donation in her honor to the Brookwood Community by visiting online at www.brookwoodcommunity.org/donate; the Alzheimer's Association by visiting online at www.alz.org; or to a charity of one's choice.
We invite you to take a few moments to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolences with her family by selecting the "Add a Memory" icon below.
