Howard Glenn Garofano succumbed to cancer on March 16th, 2024 at MD Anderson. He fought hard in the years since his diagnosis. Howard was born May 18th, 1957 in Leesville, Louisiana. He was the first son of Richard and Shirley Garofano (Swain).
Howard spent his childhood moving around due to his father’s military career. They moved from Louisiana to Texas and then to Italy. During this time, he had the opportunity to experience Europe and learned Italian. After nine years, his family moved back to the United States. He stayed for a while in Georgia, but then moved to Massachusetts.
It was here that he would meet his lovely wife,Tammy Garofano (Landry). The two married in 1983 and had two children. Howard graduated from the university and went on to work in the tech industry for 30 years until his retirement. He ended his career as a SOX Auditor. Howard, who was a runner and a cyclist, completed several marathons and equally strenuous bike rides, such as the MS150. Howard learned much from his technology career and his athletic hobbies. He learned about stamina and the power of his own mental and physical strength; he used these skills in his battle against cancer. For over three decades, Howard and Tammy loved owning and fostering Brittany’s.
Due to his analytical and creative mind Howard excelled in the arts. This was witnessed when he made a Native American breastplate for his heritage and in his unbridled love for photography. In his later years, Howard rekindled his passion for photography. He traveled within the United States and around the world always with a camera in hand and never forgetting his tripod. Howard took many photography courses. He was a part of the Professional Photographers guild and obtained a certificate from the Professional Photographers of America (CPP).
Being a devout Catholic, Howard was a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church for more than 20 years. Taking his love of religion, photography, and travel, on August of 2023, Howard walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain, a pilgrimage for his faith. He returned home to his family and spent the last few months of his life being with those he loved. He is survived by his wife Tammy Garofano, two children Lindsey Garofano and Justin Garofano, his parents and his brother’s Richard, Cliff and Eddie and a granddaughter.
