He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara on April 28, 2005. He is survived by his sons Howard, Jr. and his wife Mary of Shirleysburg, PA and Kevin and his wife Vicki of Penfield, NY; 6 grandchildren, Kristopher, Trisha, Jennifer, Carly, Katrina, and Joshua. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren Rachel and Matthew Hollobaugh, and Malarie Kirsch.
Howard graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1941 with a degree in Chemical engineering. He worked as a research chemical engineer and eventually retired as an executive for Texaco. He had 8 patents for molecules used as additives for Havoline motor oil. He was also a member of the honors engineering fraternity Tau Beta Pi.
