He earned a bachelor of science degree from Baylor University in 1959. From there he furthered his education at the University of Michigan Medical School, receiving his doctor of medicine in 1964. After his internship at Sacramento County Hospital, he joined the US Air Force as a General Medical Officer and served his country from 1965-1967. He returned to Houston where he completed his general practice residency at Memorial Baptist Hospital. In 1969, he opened a private family practice where he would treat in his gentle, caring manner the greater part of northwest Houston for forty years. In 1982, he became a member of the FAAFP. When he wasn’t treating patients, Hugh enjoyed traveling the world over and there weren’t many places he did not visit. He also enjoyed gardening and took special pride in both his yard and orchids. He especially enjoyed good food, good drink and good friends. He will be deeply missed both family, friends and colleagues.
