

November 7th. She was born on November 27, 1927 to Emma (Logemann) and Arthur Ummelmann
in Shiner, Texas, where she lived until her senior year in high school. She graduated from Yoakum
High School, after which she and a friend moved to Houston to attend business school. After
business school, she worked for Gordon Lowther, CPA and later for independent oilman, J. Collier
Hurley. She met the love of her life, C.E. “Les” Leslie on a blind date in early 1952. After a brief
courtship, they married on May 23, 1952 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Houston. They had
three daughters and made Houston their home. Upon retirement, they moved to their country
property in McGregor, Texas. They lived a full and happy life there for more than 20 years, during
which time they expanded their family with the arrival of two grandchildren. After the death of her
husband, Irene moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas where she spent the next 16 years. She
enjoyed her friends there, along with the many activities available to her. In 2019, she moved back
to Houston and made her home at Clarewood House, where she lived until her death.Irene was devoted to her family and loved nothing more than having everyone together for visits and holidays. She enjoyed gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles, needlework and more recently, watching the birds outside her window and bingo with her friends at Clarewood House.
Irene is predeceased by her parents, Emma & Arthur Ummelmann; her husband, C.E. Leslie; her
brother Arnold Ummelmann & his wife Marie; her brother Oscar Ummelmann & his wife Alice; as well
as by several nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her mother & father in-law, Emerson &
Victoria Leslie; her step mother-in-law, Ethel Leslie; and her in-laws Bernice Martin, Beatrice Allen,
Sally Adamson & husband Ian and Eileen Toth. Irene is survived by her daughters & son-in-laws, Janice & Bill Visinsky; Sandra & Ron Ferrazzuolo; and Laura & Darrell Winslett. She is also survived by her grandson & wife, Brian & Shauntal Winslett and her granddaughter, Ashley Winslett. She was thrilled that she was going to become a great grandmother for the first time with the arrival of a great grandson in December. Irene is also survived by the following in-laws: Dorothy & Jim Leslie; Steve Toth; Barbara & Lawrie Coulson; and Diane & Bill Leslie, as well as by a number of nieces & nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many members of staff in the ECC section at Clarewood House. It was their love, care and support that allowed Irene to live a full and happy life over the last several years.
There will be a private graveside service for the family, at which time Irene will be laid to rest with her husband and her mother. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations are requested for Clarewood House, in memory of Irene Leslie.
