Jack Wayman Grimes, 95, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Born in Weatherford, Texas, he was preceded in death by his parents, Fern (Pierce) and Shelly B. Grimes; his three siblings; and his son-in-law, Joe R. Calvert.
Jack was raised on a farm, where he learned the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance. He met his beloved wife, Marinell, in high school, and their romance spanned more than 80 years. After attending Weatherford Junior College and Southern Methodist University, Jack earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1955. He served in the National Guard and enjoyed a 38-year career with Texaco, living in multiple cities across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Georgia. He retired in 1993.
In each city they lived in, Jack and Marinell focused on making new friends and serving in their local church. Jack participated in various ministries, served on committees and also served as a deacon at Second Baptist Church. A great conversationalist with genuine humility, Jack enjoyed learning about others, sharing good jokes, and lending a helping hand. He enjoyed golf, hunting, Bible study, and serving others. He followed sports and was a loyal fan of the Astros. Above all, he loved Marinell, his family, and the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Marinell; his son, Glenn Grimes, and wife, Lennie; his daughter, Lisa Calvert; grandchildren Stefanie (Calvert) Candelari and husband Jay, Russell Calvert and wife Elaine, Lauren (Grimes) Harper and husband Dakota, and John Grimes; and great-grandchildren Noah and Grace Candelari, and Ryann and Toby Calvert.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Second Baptist Church on April 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Hankamer Chapel, located at 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, TX.
