Jacqueline Hoeffler Reynolds, beloved and devoted wife, outstanding mother, loving grandmother, and constant friend, went to be with her Lord on the 27th of June, 2012. Her faith was strong and unwavering.
Jackie was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, daughter of Jack and Pauline Musgrove Hoeffler on the 25th of March, 1924. At the age of 6, she moved to Houston. She attended West University Elementary, which her granddaughter also attended, and graduating from Lamar High School. She attended the University of Houston. In 1944, she married Herman Reynolds, Jr. in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. This began her lifelong membership in the St. Paul’s community. In November of 2011, Jackie and Herman celebrated 67 years of marriage – a marriage of mutual devotion and loving commitment.
Jackie and Herman lived in many places throughout his career – Houston, Austin, Dallas; Fairfield, Connecticut; Richmond, Virginia; Strafford, Pennsylvania – where they always easily made friends due to Jackie’s bright and outgoing personality. In retirement, Jackie and Herman moved to their country home in Round Top, Texas, where they were surrounded by the most incredible group of loving and attentive friends. Their kindness and attention were overwhelming, and for this, we thank them.
First and foremost, Jackie existed for her family and friends. Her beautiful smile would light up every room she entered, endearing her to people before she even spoke. Her love was unconditional, and when you met her, you knew you were in the presence of someone special. She will be so missed by all the people who knew her, socialized with her, traveled with her, and had the good fortune to have her as a wife, mother, or grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her son, Herman Reynolds III.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Herman, two daughters, Patricia Reynolds Cowan and her husband, Mark, and Darsey Reynolds Gridley. She leaves three grandchildren who lovingly called her “Mago,” and upon whom she doted – Kathryn Reynolds Gridley, Carrie Cowan, and Drew Cowan. She also leaves two brothers, Jack A. Hoeffler, Jr. and his wife, Eva, and Paul Hoeffler.
An interment and graveside service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 3rd of July, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue, Houston, Texas 77023. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons will be positioned at the cemetery’s entrance to guide guests to the interment site.
A memorial service, celebrating Jackie’s life, is to be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 8th of July, at the Edythe Bates Old Chapel at Festival Hill, 248 Jaster Road, Round Top, Texas 78954. Rev. Terry Thompson, a minister with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Houston for many years and a close friend of the family, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s memory may be made to the Round Top Festival Institute, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX, 78654-0089 – a place that afforded Jackie so much joy during her lifetime and where the music is truly a touch of heaven on earth.
