

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Richard Coe, 82, of Houston, Texas. James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on June 6, 1942, in East Orange, New Jersey, he lived a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering dedication to his family and country.
James proudly joined the United States Air Force on February 17, 1960, where he served with honor and distinction. His commitment to duty and patriotism was a defining part of his character, and he carried that same sense of integrity throughout his life.
In 1976, James married the love of his life, Linda Lou Coe. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Their bond was unbreakable, and their love story was one of true devotion. They traveled the world side by side, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
James was a man of many passions. He found great joy in spending time at the beach, whether walking along the shore with Linda, watching the waves roll in, or simply soaking in the warmth of the sun surrounded by his family. Christmas gatherings at his home were a highlight of the year, a time when his love for family truly shone. He adored being a grandfather and great-grandfather, always making time to share stories, laughter, and wisdom with the younger generations.
James had a distinguished career as an engineer, serving as a lead supervisor on multiple projects worldwide. His work took him to many places, but no matter where he was, his heart was always with his family. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Theodore Roosevelt Post 391, where he found camaraderie and friendship among fellow veterans.
James Coe was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Edith Coe; his brother, Dick Coe; his sister, Leslie Rutledge; his wife, Linda Coe; and his son, Mark Kelpen.
James is survived by his brother, Peter; his sons, Herbert Joe Kelpen and wife Kimberly, Michael Alan Kelpen and wife Connie, James Andrew Coe and wife Sissie; his daughter, Shelley Abbott; and daughter-in-law, Jana Kelpen. He was a beloved grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his love and guidance.
James Richard Coe was a man of integrity, love, and kindness. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be forever cherished.
May he rest in eternal peace.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 AM, with a committal service to follow at 1:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. The reception will take place Friday, March 14, 2025, from 1:45 PM to 3:45 PM, at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
