James Harold Dewberry, Sr. was born on October 8, 1930 in Houston, Texas and went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2019 after a full 88 years of life. He was a lifelong Houston resident where he graduated from Aldine High School and went on to play football for the University of Houston. He lived a life of service as a private in the Air Force, an elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church, a coach and teacher and then earned a Doctorate in Education during his time at Houston Community College where he served as a Provost.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Mary and C.J. Dewberry and his daughter Sharon Carlson. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Dewberry; son James Dewberry, Jr. and his wife Pam; granddaughter Kathryn Wesson and her husband Kyle; grandsons Eric Dewberry and his girlfriend Sam Means, Allen Dewberry and his wife Erin, and Jack Dewberry and his girlfriend Haley Hardt.
The family will receive friends for a visitation Friday, March 29, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service to follow and began promptly at 2:00 PM in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park.
