

James Edward “Jimmy” Haynes, 86, passed away on May 2, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Nashville, Arkansas on April 29, 1924 to Edgar White and Bertha Victoria Haynes. Jimmy married Ernestine Scott on July 7, 1950 and they devoted their 59 years of marriage to their family, friends and church.
Jimmy served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. A 1948 graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway Arkansas, he worked his entire career at United Gas Pipeline. He began in Shreveport, LA in the Chemistry Lab and retired in Houston as Executive Vice President of UGPL and a member of its Board of Directors. He also served for years on the Boards of Directors of Eastex Energy, El Paso Pipeline, Fayetteville Bank, Industry Bank and Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Jimmy enjoyed spending his time outdoors gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling throughout the country as well as entertaining family and friends at his beloved farm in Fayetteville, Texas. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas and Highland Baptist Church and Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana and Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He also participated in many volunteer activities at his church and other service organizations including the Fayetteville Lions Club.
Jimmy will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. Everyone has fond memories of his smile and sense of humor at family gatherings and his willingness to lend a hand to those in need. His generous contributions of time and attention to family and friends are treasured in our hearts.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Scott Haynes, and his parents, Edgar White Haynes and Bertha Victoria Haynes.
Jimmy is survived by his brother, George Rufus Haynes and wife, Noella; his sons, James Scott Haynes and wife Gail, Edward Charles Haynes and wife Dora, and John David Haynes; grandchildren, Kirbie Leigh Haynes, Veronica Jean Haynes, Julia Lynne Haynes, Ryan Bradley Phillips, Tyler Mathew Phillips and Ellis Vaughn Haynes; nephews, Timothy Andrew Haynes, David Patrick Haynes and Lee Scott Harned; nieces, Alison Marie Davis, Luauna Marie Schmidt, Lynne Harned Roffino and Anne Harned Lindsey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 5th, 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside services for the family will be followed by a memorial service and reception for all friends and family at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, Texas on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deacon’s Benevolence Fund at Tallowood Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
