

James Edgar “Red” McKinney of Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 7 in Cypress, Texas, surrounded in love and care by his family. Red was born to Frank and Jewel McKinney in Beaumont, Texas, on March 2, 1927.
Red was a standout punter and placekicker in high school in Louisiana and he was to play football at Texas Tech University, but he joined the Navy to serve in World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart. He returned to Houston after the war, attended the University of Houston and worked in maintenance for Western Electric/Southwestern Bell for 34 years.
He loved the Lord and his family, enjoyed fishing, hunting and football, and retired to his ranch near Marlin, Texas, where he ran his cattle.
Red was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Mae Briggs McKinney, in 1982, his parents and his three sisters, Evelyn Moore, Ella Spurkoff and Mary Edith McKinney.
Red is survived by his daughter, Diane Reneau and her husband, Mark, and his son, James Mark McKinney and his wife Tracie. He is also survived by four grandchildren: James Scott Reneau and his wife, Wendy, Russell Reneau, James Michael McKinney and his wife, Laura, and Adriana McKinney. Red is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Austin and Lindsey Reneau.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Scott Reneau, Russell Reneau, James Michael McKinney, Austin Reneau, Joe Johns and R. B. Tillman.
Services will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Brookside Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park. Visitation will begin an hour prior to service time.
