Jim was born on August 18, 1947, to Ruth (Betty) and James F. Merriman. He was raised, the youngest of four, in Monticello, Illinois, until he attended Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated in 1970 with a degree in architecture.
He worked in Atlanta, until 1978 when he relocated with his family to Texas. He opened JRM Architects in 1991 where his scope of work ranged from commercial to residential design. While his career success is notable, the most defining characteristic of Jim was his passion for his family and friends. Jim never missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and dear friend to those in his Encouragers Sunday School class.
He is survived by Dane and Kristi Merriman and their children Scyler, Tristan and Dawson; Taite and Melissa Merriman and their children Addison and Eli; Cara and Alastair Cullen and their children Hunter, Jillian and Natalie; Adam and Sandy Guy and their children Sarah and Ryan; and his sister Peg. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cathy, his father James, his mother Betty and his sister Sally.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Nov 22, 11 a.m. at Sugar Creek Baptist Church - Chapel 13213 Southwest Frwy Sugar Land, TX 77478.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Second Mile Missions Center, http://www.secondmile.org .
