

James E. "Jim" Peterson, age 79, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones on February 4, 2011. Widely known for his charm and generosity, Jim's passion for good friends, family, travel, work and wine brought a smile to all who knew him.
He was born on August 8, 1931 to Arthur and Genevieve Peterson in Red Wing, Minnesota. Jim served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War and then earned a business degree from the University of Houston. It was here that he met the love of his life and wife of fifty years, Barbara Smith Peterson. He spent the majority of his career in Houston building local, as well as, international businesses, investing in real estate, and befriending all whom he met. Travel was a particular joy for Jim; he traveled to 130 different countries, always enjoying new cultures, making new friends around the world and bringing his family along much of the time.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father and four brothers. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Denison; and sisters-in-law Delores Peterson and Sherry Smith; and brother-in-law Lee Smith. He is also survived by his children Mark Peterson, Daniel Peterson, and Karen Timberlake; and their spouses Margi Peterson, Teri Peterson, and Todd Timberlake. "JaJa" is also survived by his grandchildren Jake and Tess Peterson, and Max and Pete Timberlake. In the final years of his life, Jim was lucky enough to find LaJuana Ramsey, who brought him happiness, laughter and love.
Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2011 from 5 until 7 PM at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11 AM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7901 Westview. Interment will immediately follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's name to Yellowstone Academy, 3000 Trulley Street Houston, TX 77004.
A special thanks to Patty, Zach and Amy who made the end so much better for Dad.
