He goes to our heavenly father to join his brother, Frank Schoenstein, and his oldest son, Jay Schoenstein. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Schoenstein, and his sister, Florence Boland. He also leaves behind his loving family of 3 daughters and their husbands: Lennie & Stan Hill, Elle & Mike Mooney and Terry & Farshid Parvinazar, 3 sons and their spouses: Ed & Lynda Schoenstein, Tim & Renee Schoenstein and Patrick & Vikki Schoenstein, 15 beloved grandchildren, and many close friends.
Jim was born the son of James A. and Mabel Schoenstein in Pensacola, Florida, in 1925. He graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School and St. Bernard College in Alabama. He worked for Westvaco Paper Company and Stone Container for 45 years and many times was named top salesman of the year. However, he is most remembered for his love of family, friendship, faith, and a very giving spirit. Among other things, Jim and Mary worked on the Family Guild to form what is now St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Jim worked on the Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association and was an avid tennis player and a long time member of the Dad’s Club of Spring Branch. Over the last few years Jim took up the sport of pickleball and won multiple gold medals at the Senior Olympics. Jim and Mary spent many of their retirement years living on the beach in Pensacola, before moving back to Houston in 2004 to be nearer to their family.
