

James “Jim” Alan Schrader peacefully passed away at his home in Houston, Texas, on February 3, 2025. Born on March 7, 1965, in Alpena, Michigan, to Joseph and Carolyn Schrader, Jim grew up in Michigan and always considered it home. Although he built his life, family, and career in Texas, his heart remained tied to Michigan, and he cherished sharing stories from his time there.
Jim graduated from Central Michigan University and, following his graduation, moved to Texas to begin a career as an educator. It was in Houston where he met and later married his beloved wife, Gwendolyn (Parrott) Schrader. He dedicated 28 years of his life to teaching at Briscoe Elementary School, where he nurtured young minds and found his chosen family among colleagues and students. His fondest memories and favorite stories often originated from his time at Briscoe, highlighting his unwavering commitment to education and service. In 2017, Jim retired after a lifetime of dedication to teaching. Post-retirement, he found joy in helping others, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Gwendolyn; his children, Sam-Alan Schrader and Shelby Schrader; his siblings, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Schrader, Jay (Shannon) Schrader, and Jenna (Cory) Schaeffer and a host of other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Schrader, and his mother, Carolyn Schrader.
Jim will forever be remembered for his giving heart, his commitment to bringing joy to others, and his sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, dedication, and laughter.
