You have my condolences for your Father, Mr. Shanahan. You all were a blessing to me and my family for so many years and your father was as well.  Casa and Compleat Cuisine will continue to be in my memory as a wonderful company to work for.  
My apologies for missing the memorial service. I just found out about it today (1/12/26).  May God's Grace be with you and your family in Jesus' Name.

I was too young to remember meeting Uncle Jimmy — and, unfortunately, only recently had the chance to reconnect. As a child, our family trips to Texas always included a stop to see Uncle Jimmy and Rose, and my mother still remembers them vividly: the warmth and generosity of their home, and, perhaps most memorably, the aroma of a beautifully prepared home-cooked meal.

Fast forward about twenty-five years. I was finishing up my PhD and preparing to enter industry, looking for employment, when my father suggested I reach out to reconnect with Uncle Jimmy. I did — and I am profoundly grateful that I did. In just the past six months, Uncle Jimmy became an unexpected mentor and guide. He told me he enjoyed mentoring people, even having a couple of “students” he would send emails to with excerpts from articles or chapters of his book, which he shared with pride. Through his advice, I negotiated my first employment offer, learned to move beyond what he affectionately termed my “egghead thinking,” and gained the confidence to present my vision for business improvements directly to the management of the company I work for. Uncle Jimmy passed before I was able to share that last accomplishment with him — but I know he recognized my potential and believed I had the capacity to bring it to fruition.

That is why I am here today: to express my gratitude — gratitude from my family, for always welcoming us into his home; and gratitude from myself, for helping me recognize and capitalize on my potential, and for giving me the confidence to pursue it. 

Uncle Jimmy’s generosity, wisdom, and guidance will remain with me always.

His spirit was infectious and, when he talked to you, it was obvious he was tuned in and energized by the interaction. 

 Losing the physical presence is a loss you never fully get over but, when you’ve been carried on the wings of an angel like Jim, you know you’ve been blessed with a life-long invisible hand that will continue to help blow the wind when your sails need a push and help guide you to calmer waters.  He was, truly, one-of-a-kind and, a great father, husband and grandpa!

I would like to express to you my sympathy and deepest condolence for the death of your Dad. I was his caregiver and I was near him on his last couple of week. He was a nice and kind man. We use to discuss about every thing in the word. He gave me a lot of good advice. I am sorry again for your loss. May his soul rest in peace. Be brave.

Jim Shanahan was one of the most influential mentors in my life. He had a rare combination of business brilliance, integrity, and genuine generosity with his time and counsel. 

I learned so much from watching and listening to how he thought, how he treated people, and how he built lasting value through discipline and character. I am deeply grateful I had the opportunity to get to know him.  

Jim's guiding light will help lead us on through our memories of him and his books, and his numerous instructive writings.

Jim was my son in laws father.  When I visited them in Houston I usually saw Jim as well.   We always enjoyed catching up on events in each others lives.  We always shared our wisdom with each other.   I will miss those times we shared.  

God speed Jim!  I’ll bet you met him…..

I only had so many conversations with Mr Shanahan, but at the time I was dating his granddaughter, he had given me a copy of his book. Although I didn’t ever finish it, he wanted to share his legacy with me and even the few chapters I read captivated me and I do believe have something to do with my major successes of this day. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the Shanahan family 🙏🙏🙏🙏.  Uncle Jim was a nice uncle and I will miss his stories about Chicago and Aunt Rose. Love and prayers to all of you.

I had the privilege of staying with Patrick and Leesa, while on exchange, where I witnessed firsthand the kind-hearted person Jim was and experienced the warmth of his family. Every celebration, Jim made sure I had everything I needed, showing genuine interest in my life on the other side of the globe. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering support created an atmosphere filled with love and joy.

Jim's ability to connect with others and share in their stories exemplified his character. He had a remarkable way of making everyone feel valued and included, and his legacy of mentorship and encouragement will forever resonate with those who knew him. 

Thank you for the great conversation and wonderful memories.
