

James Eugene Wingfield, age 82 , passed away after a long courageous battle with lung disease. Jim was born January 27, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His family moved to Cushing, Oklahoma where Jim graduated from Cushing High School in 1947. He briefly attended Oklahoma A&M and then moved to Galveston, Texas. He joined the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan for a time. Returning to Texas, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas with a BA degree and became a proud Texas Longhorn.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Ann, his daughters, Jerri Walz, Colleen Larsen and her husband Ed, son-in-law and daughter-in-law Greg and Debbie Richards. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Adam Richards, Eric Richards, James Walz, Miranda Calhoun, Austin Calhoun, Matt Larsen and Chelsea Larsen and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Wingfield, daughter Jan Richards, sister Margaret Waldorf, and son-in-law Joe Walz.
Jim came to Texas at a young age and has been a Texan ever since. After graduating from the University of Texas he moved to Houston and began his career in the marine transportation business at what would become Tenneco Oil Company. He also worked at Carbonit and retired from Dorval Shipping. Jim was a gentle man with a warm sense of humor who enjoyed teasing his family and friends. He especially was happy being with his grandchildren, attending their many events, and spending many happy times at a beach condo with them. His interest in classic cars and airplanes made for many visits to auto shows and air shows. Jim and Mary Ann loved to travel to visit family and friends. He was a previous member of Fair Haven United Methodist Church in Houston and more recently a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas. He will be greatly missed by those who love him.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, December 20, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer, Houston, Texas 77077. A memorial service will be held at St. Peters United Methodist Church, 20775 Kingsland, Katy, Texas at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 21.
A private burial will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Peters United Methodist Church or Fair Haven United Methodist Church, 1330 Gessner, Houston, TX 77055 or to the American Lung Association.
