Jane Grimmett was born on February 26, 1922 in Altus, OK. She was raised in Altus by her mother, Marie Hutchinson, and her step-father, Hutch Hutchinson. Growing up in the era of the American Dust Bowl and the Great Depression taught Jane many lessons in her adolescence. Strength and toughness were paramount in surviving those times and Jane learned both from Marie and Hutch.
Jane’s life would be forever changed in 1937 when one day she met the man of her dreams, Robert Shaw Grimmett. Jane was instantly taken by Bob, as he was known, with his striking good looks and warm personality. Bob courted Jane and soon the two had fallen deeply in love with each other. However, Bob was soon sent away to train at New Mexico Military Academy. Jane and Bob kept in touch through letters and their love never died. The distance only grew them closer.
On December 7, 1941 the Japanese Navy attacked United States Armed Forces at Pearl Harbor. On December 8, 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan in the Pacific and Germany in Europe. Shortly thereafter Bob was activated from NMMA to active duty in the United States Army. Prior to deploying to North Africa Bob was able to return to Altus where he and Jane were married on September 27, 1942.
In 1944 Bob deployed in support of the Allied Forces in World War II. That same year with Bob overseas Jane gave birth to their first child, Karen. Bob returned to Altus after Allied victory in 1945. The following year Jane gave birth to their second child, Virginia (Gina).
In 1955 Jane, Bob and the girls moved from Altus to Houston, TX. In 1957 they welcomed their third child Robert (Bobby).
In 1967 Jane and Bob moved to Conroe, TX, settling in a new golf course community know as River Plantation. In 1984 after Bob retired from Rockwell International he and Jane moved to their favorite place, the Texas Hill Country. There they lived in Horseshoe Bay and Berry Creek.
The 1970s would see Jane and Bob meeting the first four of their grandchildren- Justin, Robert (Robby), Chad and Ryan. In the 1980s they would meet the next two- Garrett and Krista. In the 1990s came the first two of their eleven great grandchildren. The other nine followed into the next two decades.
Jane would say goodbye to the love of her life in 2008 when Bob passed away after a brave battle with leukemia.
Jane is preceded in death by her mother, Marie, and her husband Bob. Jane is survived by daughters Karen, Gina and husband Justin, and son Bobby and wife Kim; grandchildren Justin, Robby, Chad, Ryan, Garret and Krista; great grandchildren Justin, Hayden, Lauren, Walker, CJ, Bryson, Davis, Weston, Mason, Gage and Janie.
