

Janet Elizabeth (Libby) Hartman, 68, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born May 12, 1943 in Portland, Maine to Earle and Barbara Libby. On February 11, 1978 she married James Hartman in Houston, Texas. A resident of Katy for over 20 years, Janet possessed a great passion for literature, cooking, and spending time with her family. Over the years, she and James enjoyed frequent getaways to Wimberley and other Hill Country destinations with their daughters and grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, James Franklin Hartman of Katy, Texas; daughters Kim (Hastings) Petersen and husband Jeff, of Katy, and Kristina Hastings of Houston; sisters Beverly (Libby) Prigmore of Fountain, CO, Sharon (Libby) Jones of The Villages, FL, and Karen (Buckley) Dauzat of Alexandria, LA; brothers Gerald Libby of Boston, MA, Ronald Libby of Hallandale, FL, Dennis Libby of Spicewood, TX, and Patrick Buckley of Mont Belvieu, TX; brother-in-law Louis Hartman of Channelview, TX; sister-in-law Geraldine (Hartman) Hudson of Sugar Land, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janet was “Nanny” to her two beloved granddaughters, Leslie (Petersen) Grayson and husband Joe, of Katy, and Lydia Petersen of College Station.
A funeral mass and memorial service celebrating Janet’s life will be held on December 29, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. Inurnment at Memorial Oaks will follow immediately after the service.
