Janet L. Moore “Lovey”, a devoted educator, loving mother and grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on the afternoon of Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born in 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Pauline Walker Williams Edwards and O.J. Williams, and was raised in Claremore, Oklahoma.. After completing her education in Oklahoma, she made Houston her home for the rest of her life where she raised her daughter Meredith Moore. Throughout her life, she remained friends with her ex-husband John R. Moore along with neighbors and dear friends Viki and John
Hennessy.
Janet earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Oklahoma Baptist University, where she cultivated a lifelong passion for teaching and nurturing young minds. She dedicated over 25 years of her professional life as an elementary school teacher in Deer Park Independent School District. Her kindness, patience, and commitment to her students left a lasting impression on generations of children and their families. In retirement, Janet embraced creativity and connection after moving to The Houston Medical Center and Museum District after living in Clear Lake City 20+ years. She found great joy in designing personalized stationery and crafting beautiful, intricate beaded jewelry. More than anything, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her beloved granddaughters.
Janet is survived by her loving daughter, Meredith P. Moore-Rall; her son-in-law, Ryan Rall; and her granddaughters, Sienna and Shelby Rall, who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her brother Larry Williams, of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Williams; nephew, Chris Williams; and great-niece, Julianna Williams.
Janet will be remembered as a fantastic cook, great Scrabble and card player, and creative spirit. Janet’s extensive stationary and beading supply collection will be donated to the Houston Hope Lodge Activity Room. This donation will allow her creative legacy to live while providing patients with cancer and their caregivers an outlet during their stay at the Hope Lodge. The American Cancer Society’s Houston Hope Lodge provides free lodging for people visiting the Houston Medical Center from out of town and needing a home away from home. Lovey is a proud breast cancer survivor and Meredith is also a breast cancer
and thyroid cancer survivor. Ultimately, Lovey passed away from complications of pneumonia after living a happy and healthy life after her breast cancer treatments ended in 2020.
A celebration of her life will be held in June with the exact date announced by the family very soon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to Friends of Hope Lodge, specifically for the Activity Room Fund. All donations will be used to provide supplies for the Hope Lodge Activity Room, as well as crafting workshops led by professional instructors for the Hope Lodge guests. We know Lovey would be thrilled that her crafting, stationery and beading collection and supplies are being enjoyed by so many deserving
families. We invite you to remember and celebrate Lovey by volunteering at Houston’s Hope Lodge Activities Room for the many events all year, every year.
