Mrs. Pfeiffer was born on the 11th of March 1933, the daughter of Nancy and William McHattie.
Janet Pfeiffer, a long time resident of Houston and Hempstead, Texas, was a big city girl who was always a country girl at heart. She loved the time she spent on her family ranch and with her animals. She was active supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the National Wildlife Federation, the Houston Zoo, the Houston Humane Society/Houston SPCA and was a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
“Ahde” enjoyed the life of “the Plantation era.” Her dedication to animals and agriculture and her interaction with those who worked for her: Adrian Wilhite, Corky Robinson, Eric Gearhart, Mosses Stelly, Penny Wilhite and especially Doris Stelly--a loving adopted family member and caregiver--reflected a generous and giving spirit to those within her family and to those who shared her life, Earl Gearhart. Her firecracker personality, jokes and stories lit up the room for all.
Mrs. Pfeiffer was preceded in death by her husband Carl E. Pfeiffer. She is survived by her children Martha Anderson of Howell, Michigan; Susan Tubb and husband David of Canadian, Texas; Lucy Pfeiffer of Phoenix, Arizona; Mac Pfeiffer and wife Kim of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren Erik and Andy Anderson; Taylor, Cannon, Christie and Wyatt Tubb and his wife Anna; Karl, Derek and Van Pfeiffer. She leaves behind many good and true friends.
The family expresses special appreciation to Dr. Robert Jackson for his compassionate care.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 10th of September 2010, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that donations in Janet’s name be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2425 Fountain View Suite #280, Houston, TX, 77057; to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Dr., Reston, VA, 20190; to the SPCA, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX, 77024; or to the Star of Hope Mission, 6897 Ardmore, Houston, TX, 77054.
