

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Adelle Stout Whalen, 76, beloved spouse of William E. Whalen (deceased), on Tuesday the 21st of April 2026. Her parents were Maxine Cordell Stout and Charles E. Stout.
Janice was born on the 2nd of June 1949 in Huntsville, Texas. As a child, she then moved to Houston, where she lived with her two sisters Carmen and Charlotte and her brother Bud in a loving home along with her mother Maxine Stout and Grandparents JB and Hazel Cordell. Janice received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Accounting at University of Texas in Tyler. She became a Certified Public Accountant and had a successful career as the CFO of Amerisource Funding, where she made lifelong friends. She was very active in The Houston’s First Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday School and had a tremendous number of friends. Janice was a former President of the Houston Junior Woman’s Club and enjoyed her fellow members. Additionally, she was a dedicated Docent at Bayou Bend. She currently lived at The Doliver where she enjoyed all the activities and events. She appreciated the friendships that she had formed there.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Whalen, father Charles E. Stout, mother Maxine Cordell Stout, sister Charlotte Lynch, brother-in-law Dennis Whalen, sister-in-law Janet Weil and nephews Bryant Stout and Sean Whalen.
She was devoted to her family and friends. Janice is survived by her step-daughter, Alysse Rueckert, son-in-law Kenneth Rueckert, grandsons William Rueckert and Cole Rueckert, her sister Carmen Bigham, brother Bud Stout. Her sisters-in-law Rebecca Stout Gibb and Linda Whalen. Her aunt Brenda Galyean, nieces Natalie Mills, Jennifer Koenig, Rhonda Throckmorton, Kathi Whalen, and nephew Kenneth Bigham; cousins Adrienne Moorhead, Anne Gossett, Allen Galyean, Michael Galyean, Gaye McGinn, Cindy Estetter, Stephanie Harmon and Jessica Cordell, along with many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her.
Our family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and prayers during this very difficult time.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 4th of May, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 5th of May, at Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway in Houston.
The interment service is to follow at four o’clock in the afternoon at Lakewood Memorial Park, 1001 Van Buren Street in Henderson, Texas.
