She was the only child of George and Barbara Arts. Her father was a produce broker and she was fond of saying that she never spent a school year at the same school. Her early life was spent traveling the southwest following the growing seasons.
She met her first husband, Joseph Dowling, in Corpus Christi, and they were married in January of 1939. They were blessed with sixty years of marriage, four children, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
During their marriage, they lived in both Dallas and Houston. She was an avid member of local garden clubs and served in many officer positions. Throughout her life, she continued her passion for gardening and floral arranging. She volunteered at her children's schools and later took a position at the St. Thomas High School Foundation office.
She originally met her second husband, Joe Priour, in the fourth grade. He was first married to her life long fourth grade friend Kathryn Bates for 55 years. The Dowlings and Priours maintained a friendship throughout their marriages. When she married Joe Priour she also gained his eight children whom she "adopted" and truly loved as her own. Jeanette always felt that her second marriage of sixteen years to Joe Priour was a true blessing and had given both she and Joe a new lease on life.
Jeanette had a passion for painting in oils and watercolor. Her favorite scenes were of Texas Hill Country blue bonnets, sea scapes and ponds.
