Jeannette O’Farrell White was born on July 31, 1924 in Houston Texas to Thomas T O’Farrell and Viola Brast O’Farrell. She went to her Heavenly home on February 12, 2011 in Houston, Texas. She lived most of her life in Houston where she has numerous friends and relatives.
Jeannette is survived by her brother Dean O’Farrell, her sister Dorothy “Dottie” Taylor, her son Wesley Jack White, Jr. and her daughter in law Sherri Ryan White, granddaughters Erin Ryan White and Lindsay Margaret White; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews , other family members and a host of her church friends. Her husband of 43 years, Wesley Jack White Sr. preceded her in death.
She graduated from Jeff Davis High School. After marrying Wesley and traveling with him during his military deployment, she began working at the American Can Company, while attending the University of Houston. She graduated with a Master degree in micro-biology and later began working for Riviana Foods. She then decided to help others more directly and ultimately retired from the University of Texas Health Science Institute Dental Branch as a lead micro biologist focused on helping cancer patients.
After her family, her second love was the Methodist church. She volunteered as youth counselor, youth director, alter chair and many other areas of responsibility at Aldersgate UMC. After joining St. Stephens UMC she continued her volunteer efforts in many areas focused on senior ministry. She also volunteered with UTHRO where she arranged monthly outings for the organization’s members. She headed the flu shots and vaccination program for the Methodist Churches in her local north-side Houston area.
She will be remembered as a strong willed person who tenaciously rose from her modest beginnings to become a professional woman, an outstanding micro biologist and a volunteer for others.
Arrangements under the direction of Pat H. Foley & Company, Houston, TX.
