

She attended Poole Chapel Church School (near Conner, Tx) and Mary Anderson School (Madisonville, Tx). She later met and married Elmer Johnson. They left Madisonville, Tx and journeyed to Houston, Tx. The union was blessed with eleven children; Shirley Ann (Johnell Washington), Joe Elmer, Ruby Jewell, Mike Arthur (Mack), Linda Carol, Elmo Lee, Bobbie Lenell (Barbara) (L.D. Williams), Paul Ray (Ray Ray), Paula Kay (Kay Kay), Pearlie Joyce (Philip Johnson Sr.) and Dawn Danita.
Jewel's gifts included a great love for people and caring for animals. This love for animals led her to obtain a job caring for animals. She enjoyed a long career a Tom Sawyer Animal Clinic. She was a favorite Aunt to many of her nieces and nephews and a well loved mother in her community. She loved being in good company and this sparked her entrepreneurial spirit. She opened J. J's Lounge in Studewood. She ran the lounge with the help of her children for many years.
She was lovingly referred to as, "Big Mama" and blessed to live a long life; threescore and the more. 90 years.
She is joining the family reunion in glory that includes her parents, siblings: Frank Wallace, Corean, Edd Allen, Clifford, Herman, Rosa Lee (Sweet), Adlean and L.J.(Shirt). Chidren: Ruby Jewel Paula Kay, Joe Elmer. Grandchildren: Angela Robinson (Angie), Jarvis Johnson (Sam) and Roland Johnson (Ronald).
Jewel is survived by her siblings E. L. (Tot) and James Brown, (5) daughters, (3) sons, (22) grandchildren, (34) great-grandchildren, (2) great-great grandchildren, special friend Cleo Gates (Sunny), nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives from California, Fort Worth, Dallas, Georgia and as far as Washington D.C.
