Jimmy was born on January 12, 1947 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri; the son of the late William H. and Josephine Green. Jimmy was one of 12 children. He would always tell stories about what growing up with that many siblings was like. They were a very tight-knit family and we all loved hearing his stories as much as he loved telling them. Jimmy retired from Ford Motor Company after 35 years of service. It was just a job to him, but it did allow him to take excellent care of his family. In his free time, he loved to spend time with his family, his beloved dogs and loved a good game of family poker.
Jimmy met Linda Haskell as teenagers. Linda preceded Jimmy in death after over 45 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, Jimmy was also preceded in death by many of his siblings. He is survived by and will be missed by his children, Deborah and Richard Fernandez, Lisa and Steven Divine, and William and Guadalupe Green; grandchildren, Stephanie Ybarra (Josh Allen), Danielle and Chase Sokol, Katherine and Brandon Purdy, Sofia and Isaiah Santibanez, Alexx Reyes, Jackson Divine, Marisol Green, Ryan and Christina Fernandez; great-grandchildren, Bethany Biggs, Lorelei Sokol, Lila Sokol, Cecilia Purdy, Elijah Santibanez, Alex Reyes, Jordan Fernandez, Izzac Fernandez, Giselle Fernandez and many other close family members and friends.
His granddaughter, Stephanie, said “he was just the definition of a Good Man.” His granddaughter, Kate, in her recent tribute, said that he was “the first man to hold my heart and never hurt it.” Growing up, he was definitely the “fun parent.” He was sarcastic, witty and funny, but he was also generous to a fault. We will miss you, Poopie! Tell Mammy we said, “hey.”
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
