Jimmy grew up in Houston, where he graduated from Milby High School. Shortly after, he joined the Pipefitter’s Local 211 apprentice program, beginning a lifelong career of dedication and craftsmanship. Jimmy was a proud and faithful member of Local 211 for 59 years. His career gave him the opportunity to work on landmark projects, including the Alaskan Pipeline and the roof of the Astrodome, affectionately known as the “8th Wonder of the World.”
Outside of work, Jimmy found joy in spending time with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren, boating, enjoying water activities, and taking family vacations to the beach. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be remembered by all who knew him.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife and high school sweetheart, Linda Tapley; his son Darren Tapley and wife Suzanne; his grandson Ryan Tapley and wife Lindsey; his granddaughters Meghan, Ashlynn, and Avery Tapley; and his great-granddaughters Jessie Ryan and June Elizabeth Tapley. He is also survived by his honorary blood brothers, Tommy Tapley and Bob Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Darla Kay “Sis” Tapley; his parents, James Walter Tapley and Rudy Muriel Tapley; his brother, Clifford Jay Tapley; his grandparents, Shirley Moore “Mimi” and Ray and Gladys Wells; as well as numerous cherished family members.
Jimmy’s life was one of love, loyalty, and dedication—to his family, his friends, and his work. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to share in his journey.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.
