She was born in Friendship, Arkansas on March 19, 1935. Joan graduated from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas where she earned a scholarship to play basketball for the “Flying Queens”.
Joan had a lengthy career in Private Club Management and the last 25 years of her career were spent managing The Forest Club in Houston where she met and worked with some of her lifelong friends. She was a member of Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and had a passion for teaching and mentoring the students of the Conrad Hilton College at University of Houston, where she helped to establish the Southwell, Steger, Brecunier Endowment Fund at Conrad Hilton College.
Joan was also a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church where she enjoyed attending with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Brecunier and her daughter, Cindy Chenoweth and her husband, Scott Chenoweth and grandchildren, Morgan Chenoweth and Cade Hord, fiancé, and Maddie Chenoweth, who lovingly referred to her as BoomBoom. We are comforted knowing she was greeted in Heaven by her beloved dog, PJ.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 10 am at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, Texas 77069.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joan’s honor to the Southwell, Steger, Brecunier (SSB) Endowment Fund. Checks can be made to University of Houston Foundation, c/o Chris Miller, Sr. Director of Development, 4450 University Dr, #245, Houston, TX 77204 (SSB in memo).
