Joan graduated from Sidney High School in 1955 and worked as a bookkeeper in Dayton, OH. As a single woman, she purchased a home in Huber Heights; the first in a portfolio of real estate properties.
An active member of Corpus Christi Parish in Dayton, OH, she met the love of her life, Jacek Wrzyszczynski. An excerpt from Jack’s memoirs, “One of the girls in the club caught my eye and I started dating her. Her name was Joan Dorner and she was quite a bundle, both looks and intelligence.” They were married on December 29, 1962 and she raised three children. Joan was an active member in the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Catholic parishes where she and Jacek lived in Scottsdale, AZ and Rockford, IL.
Joan will be remembered for her strong will, conviction, and love for her family. She had a deep faith in God and lived with honor and integrity. Demonstrating her faith in action, she spearheaded a successful community effort to shut down a pornographic bookstore adjacent to her children’s school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Cletus Dorner, sister, Sandra Kacmarcik, and husband Jacek.
A funeral Mass will be held on January 31, at 2:00 pm at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk Dr. Katy, TX with a reception immediately following in the Parish Hall. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio.
