Joan “Joni” Woods

Born on January 12, 1953, in Ontario, Canada, Joni was raised in Toronto by parents Franklin Donald “Don” and Ann Ledgett. She attended Trent University earning a degree in English before marrying her life-long love, Kenneth “Ken” Woods in a small ceremony in Paris, France.

Joni and Ken traveled the world before a job transfer took the family to Houston, Texas in 1980. The family became involved in countless community activities with Joni and Ken passionately supporting the Ashford Whales swim team, Memorial Ashford Little League, P.T.A and any school activity in which their daughters participated. Joni enjoyed many fun nights with the “Bunco Babes” from the Ashford Women’s Club. Though Joni and Ken remained Canadian citizens, they considered themselves proud Texans.

Joni’s three daughters love her beyond words and are extremely proud of her for the strength and courage she demonstrated up until the end of her life. As a mother Joni taught her daughters love, kindness, compassion, patience and friendship. They love their mom deeply and know she is in a better place, reunited with their dad where together they will watch over them and be with them always.

Joni is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Woods-Hoelscher and Gary “Dino” Hoelscher Jr; daughters Ali Woods and Julia Woods; her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Linda Ledgett; and her kitties Smokey, Smidge and Shadow. She is preceded in death by her husband Ken Woods and her parents Don and Ann Ledgett.

A service will take place on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 3 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
