

JoAnn Flournoy Gore, 77, born the 10th of June 1937 in Jackson, Mississippi, passed away peacefully Sunday, the 10th of May 2015 after a long battle with lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, William Dean Gore; her father, E.E. (Chick) Flournoy and her mother, Josephine Cotten. She is survived by her brother, E.E. (Chick) Flournoy, Jr. and his wife, Beth; her son, William Dean Gore, Jr. and his wife, Joanne; daughter, Susan Cain and her husband, Alan; son, David C. Gore; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
JoAnn attended Millsaps College and Southwestern at Memphis where she was introduced to the man she would wed, William Dean Gore. Her primary focus was her children and family, and took great pleasure in many family gatherings and events most particularly the regular Cotten family reunions in Jackson. She was a long time member of the Houston Garden Club, and an avid gardener and bridge player. She was an active member and volunteer at Memorial Drive Christian Church and a volunteer at Tremont Retirement Community. JoAnn was a kind and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of JoAnn’s life is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 16th of May at Memorial Drive Christian Church.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon, Friday, the 22nd of May at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi.
In lieu of the customary remembrances, JoAnn wished that any memorials in her memory be made to her loving church, Memorial Drive Christian Church, 11705 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
