
Joanne Thompson Dorman, age 81, passed November 14, 2012 in Houston, Texas. She was born July 1, 1931, in Leona, Texas to Foster Louie and Ruby (Shepherd) Thompson. She attended Leona High School and Sam Houston State University. Having lived abroad for years in Venezuela, Libya and Spain, Joanne developed a keen interest in traveling and visited 40 countries on 7 continents, as well as several U.S. National Parks. Among her family and friends, Joanne was cherished as an empathetic, kindhearted, and generous person. As a gourmet cook, she derived great pleasure in entertaining family and friends. Joanne was a devoted wife and mother, who dearly loved her family, friends, pets, and her family heritage farm in Leon County. Admired for her strong will and independence, she always believed in “telling it like it is”. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Wes, and his spouse Marcy: brothers Louie and Bill, and his wife Dot; nieces and nephews, Frances Thompson, Lynn Martin, Ray Thompson, Dale Dorman, John Dorman, great-nephew, Brad Whitworth; grandchildren, Kim, Jason and Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, many close friends and neighbors; and caregivers, Yolanda Cordero, Emma Morales, and Elvia Guadarrama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan, and her son Les. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday November 17, 2012 in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas with Dr. Allison Thompson officiating. Wine and cheese will be served following the service as Joanne had requested. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Houston SPCA.
