Joe W. Rice

Joe Wilson Rice passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010. He was born in Napier, TN on July 20, 1923. Joe was preceded in death by his parents John C. and Agnes A. Rice, brother John C. Rice and sister Mary Ann Caldwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Peggy, his three children Susan Rowland, Joe W. Rice Jr. and wife Diana, Nancy Bondy and husband Mark; grandchildren Lindsey Flesher and husband Matt, Christy Lancaster and husband Todd, Todd Rowland, Scott and Bryan Bondy; great grandchildren Gray, Layton and Kye.

Joe proudly served his country in the Army during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. He attended Auburn University, was president of his ATO fraternity, and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse Electric for 38 years, and retired a second time from ABB in 2003.

Through a mutual friend he met the love of his life Peggy and they were married on June 18, 1955 in Chattanooga TN. Later they were transferred to Texas where they raised their family.

Joe was a kind and loving husband, father and Pappy, and a friend to all who knew him.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Brookside Cypress Creek Funeral Home, 9149 Hwy 6 North, Houston, 77095. A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life, followed by a reception, will be at 11:00 am Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, 77079. Joe will be interred at the Houston National Cemetery.
