

John, beloved son, brother and uncle, was called to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. John was born on January 2, 1920 in Port Arthur Texas to Marion and Angela Aquilina. John was a person of great faith. He was prayerful, humble, kind, and loving. He was active in community affairs, especially at his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas where he was an altar boy, an usher, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the parish counsel and a member of the finance committee. He was also a member of the Lions Club and was a supporter of St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur. John proudly served in the United States Army.
John owned a real estate company in Port Arthur for several years, and along with his father and brother, Sam, was co-owner/operator of Aquilina Grocery Store, Holiday Motor Hotel and Eddingston Court Apartments.
John lived in Port Arthur until 2003 when he moved to Houston to be with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sam. He is survived by his sisters Beulah Aquilina Ahysen and Mary Danna Romeo both of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. John’s sisters, nieces and nephews are thankful for the long life he was blessed with, but will deeply miss him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Johnny’s wonderful, loving and dedicated friends and caregivers, Carmen Rivera, Ken Harvey, Bert Garcia, Yemisia Davis, Guadalupe Soto and the late Guadalupe Flores. Visitation will be held in the chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3000 Brinkman Street, Houston, Texas 77018 with Monsignor James Anderson, celebrant. Private interment will follow in Port Arthur, Texas.
