

John Roy Cogan passed away February 11th, 2017 at the age of 92 in Houston Texas. Born August 14th, 1924 in Altoona PA, John served in the 4th Armored Division, Patton’s Third Army from 1943-1945 with a forward Radio & Communication Unit, landing in Normandy France and fighting through to Bavaria. He helped liberate several concentration camps at the end of the war. During his service in WW2 he received 5 Bronze Stars and the Croix de Guerre Medal of Bravery from the French Government. Upon returning home he received a Masters Degree in Information Studies from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, became a professor at Villanova University, Villanova, PA and ultimately retired after 15 years as the Executive Dean of Information Service at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Lehigh County PA.
John is survived by his wife, Virginia of Houston; Half Sister Doris Paden of Glen Burnie, MD; Son Bruce Cogan & wife Diana of Wyomissing PA; Daughter June Cogan of Oviedo, FL; step-daughters Susan Beck & husband Randy Catron of Silver City, NM; Karen Ledbetter & husband J.R. of Houston, TX and Pattie Frazier & Husband Randy of Houston TX. Military Burial will be held Wednesday February 22nd, 1:15 PM at the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
