John Carl Dix III of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2023. John was born on March 5, 1941 in Savanna Georgia. His family moved to Memphis Tennessee when he was a child. In 1977 he moved to Houston, Texas where he lived all his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Breen Dix and his father John Carl Dix Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Gracie Paz Dix, Daughter Helen Dix Whaley and Linda of Palestine, Texas. Stepsons Arnold Paz and wife Valerie, Stephen Soliz, Keith Soliz of Corpus Christi and Kara Austin of San Antonio. Brother Art Dix of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Grandchildren Brandon Whaley and wife Desi, Devin Whaley and wife Katie. Freddy, Bella, Andrew and Ava Paz. Liam Raful. He also leaves behind three beautiful great grandchildren, Brennen and Karson Whaley and Tatum Whaley. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school John joined the Air Force where he served four years active duty and two years reserve. He trained as an industrial electrician which served him well throughout his entire career.
John was a great storyteller. He loved history and to share stories of the “good ole days.” He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He loved being at the lake and fishing.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
