

Dr. John J. Fiol of El Paso, TX, was born on March 18, 1943. He passed away on March 14, 2014 in Houston, TX of natural causes at the age of 71. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years Maria Inez Fiol.
He is survived by his brother Henry Fiol, his sister Mary Francis Fiol, his dearest daughters Sandra Everington and Diana Tello, his son Edgar Fiol and his adoring eleven grandchildren.
A graduate of Austin High School Class of 1961, John discovered the power of knowledge that led him to pursue a career in education. He received his bachelor’s degree in communication and education from Texas Western University (UTEP), his master’s degree in education from UTEP and his PhD in bilingual education from Texas A&I University; A testament to his own personal mission to continue learning and lead by example.
John, currently retired at the time of his passing had a rewarding career as a teacher, councilor, district coordinator, and principle. An educational activist particularly specializing in bilingual education was always encouraging everyone around him to pursue higher education.
Services will be held March 20th from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home & on March 21st a Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at 11am.
