John married Gladys Mae Krueger on November 28, 1953 and together through this union they had
5 children. John had a passion for squirrel hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed raising
homing pigeons and doves. He also enjoyed listening to music and playing his guitar, but his biggest
passion was playing dominos with his children and grandchildren. Before retiring, John worked proudly
in the construction industry as a drywall installer for many years.
John is survived by is his wife, Gladys Fojtik; son-in-law, Rick Preston; daughters, Kathy Skweres, Connie and her husband Jeff Nettuno, Carol and her husband Rick Barnett and Cheryl and her husband Alan Lewandowski; 10 grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Justin, Kimberly, Rebecca, Daniel, Travis, Lesley, Kristin, and Kathryn; 11 great-grandchildren Emily, Anna, Lilly, William, Nathaniel, Jonah, Griffin, Hadley, Everett, Olivia, and Charlotte ; 3 sisters, and a host of extended family and friends. John never met a stranger and was known for selling pecans and vegetables in his community.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Edith Fojtik and daughter Sharon Kaye Preston.
A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary
beginning at 7:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral
service for John will be on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the Grand Chapel at Brookside
Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Brookside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to Texas Children’s Hospital
and St Jude’s.
