

He was preceded in death by his father Hugh Milton Freeland, Mother Carmon Edgar Freeland, sister Lavina Freeland Petersen, and wife Mary.
John was born in Montgomery, Texas and grew up in the Heights area of Houston. He was a 1957 graduate of Reagan High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Transportation and Logistics from the University of Houston in 1964, he worked with several trucking companies over the years.
John was an Officer in the Army reserves.
In retirement John continued his work in transportation and logistics as a hotshot delivery driver for Cannonball Trucking. He loved to drive his Ford F350 making deliveries to all areas of the United States while counting over a million delivery miles.
He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for many years.
Senior Master Freeland was an avid Martial Artist; he was a judge at most of the Texas martial arts tournaments for more than thirty years. He earned Black Belts in several styles and attained the Rank of 9th Dan in the Bushi Ban style on October 21, 2023. He was known as the “Superman of Bushi Ban.”

A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Brookside Memorial Park.
