He attended Hempstead School and he attended Prairie View A&M College. He joined the Army for 6 years. He loved transporting anything that rolled from many cities and states. He also loved to barbecue and gather with friends. He also had a love for music and would do silly dances with his daughter Renee.

John Henry leaves his wife, Ruby Goodwin, His daughter Sherry Crook, sisters, Jessie Mae Brown and Williebee Crawford, Grandchildren, Victoria Goodwin, Marcus John Goodwin, and William Grossgrove. He also leaves 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
