

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Wesley Hadnot on September 6, 2023. Born on January 13, 1958, in Deridder, Louisiana, John was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. He was the cherished youngest child of James and Cora Hadnot, and his memory will forever be treasured.
John's life was a testament to love, strength, and dedication. He now rests alongside his beloved sisters, Charlotte Hadnot, Audrey Hadnot Mays, and his brother, David, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.
At the center of John's life was his family. His wife of 25 years, Bridgette Hadnot, and his daughter, Jennifer Hadnot, were the lights of his life. Their bond was unbreakable, a testament to the love and devotion he gave and received in return.
John's remaining siblings—Bobby Hadnot, Moses Hadnot, James Hadnot, Joseph Hadnot, Roy Hadnot, Delores Wiley, Carolyn Hadnot Bailey, and Sharon Hadnot Stewart—shared a special connection that transcended time and distance. Theirs was a bond of unwavering support and love that brought them together through life's joys and challenges.
John's journey was one of service and honor. His path led him to Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he excelled in his studies and found purpose in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (R.O.T.C). In 1981, he proudly earned his bachelor's degree in business and attained the rank of Major in the R.O.T.C.
A true patriot, John continued his legacy of service by enlisting in the Army, embarking on a distinguished military career. Through his commitment and leadership, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his honorable discharge.
His love for his country was matched only by his commitment to his community. Joining the Houston Police Department, John fearlessly served for 28 years, embodying the principles of justice and protection. His unwavering dedication to his duty left an indelible mark on Houston, making him a true guardian of the city's heart.
John's interests were as diverse as his impact. First and foremost was his daily devotion with God and his beloved tattered Bible. He found joy in exploring new horizons and cherished every moment by the beach—a place where he felt at peace. As a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, he fostered friendships that enriched his life. Through the highs and lows of each season, John stood by the Los Angeles Lakers, a testament to his loyalty and passion.
John's warmth was like a gentle embrace that enveloped all those around him. He was always known for his big smile. His compassionate nature and warm smile radiated love and kindness, making everyone feel cherished and valued. He valued his lifelong friendships with Ronald and Donald Piper, Lawrence Dupas, Maurice Williams and Michael Eldridge. His legacy is one of inspiration, reminding us to embrace each moment and touch the lives of others with grace and generosity.
In the tapestry of our lives, John's thread will forever be woven. The tapestry is woven with the love of his siblings, mother-in-law, sister-in laws, brother-in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherish his memory. As we bid him farewell, we hold onto the memories—filled with laughter, love, and the courage he embodied. John's unwavering dedication to his duty, family, and country will continue to shine as a guiding light in our lives.

A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM, 3826 Wheeler Ave, Houston, TX 77004. A committal service will occur Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
