From the moment he was delivered by his own grandfather, he lived an interesting life, including marrying Martha Louise Sanchez, his beloved wife of 64 years; earning a Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University; enjoying a 30-year career with Shell Oil Company; adopting 3 children, Matt, Julie, and Stephen, whom he inspired and supported always; traveling to 5 of the 7 continents; authoring and publishing his book, "Waiting for My Muse;" teaching a variety of courses in science, math, and philosophy; pursuing a lifelong passion for photography; and other adventures too numerous to name.
John loved a good joke, a good story, a good movie, a good museum, good art, and good friends. Most of all he loved his family. John was known best for his wit, his kindness, and the breadth of his knowledge.
John died peacefully in his sleep on September 16, 2024. He said of his life that he was happy and fulfilled, having done everything he ever wanted to do.
