

John Kenneth "Chick" Huff, 93, passed away on June 27, 2011. He was born March 19, 1918 in Luling, Texas to Stephen William and Effie (Moore) Huff. He was a member of the 3rd Battalion of the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, Company I, which invaded Italy on September 9, 1943. Staff Sargent John Huff trained in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. It was in Florida where he met Florence Rita Houston his wife of 53 years. They were married in 1946 and moved to Texas, eventually staying in Houston. His early talents in whittling small objects from wood became the artistry of a career in jewelry die cutting/manufacturing. He retired from Star Engraving Co. There were numerous summer trips to Florida to visit family which have always been cherished memories. John enjoyed fishing, astronomy, gardening, and loved family life. John and Florence were members of the Houston Astronomical Society and enjoyed many vacations to West Texas to enjoy the night sky as well as hiking and rock collecting. He has enjoyed his association with the 36th division group that meets in Houston.
John will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of independence, and friendliness to all, children and adults, young and old.
John is survived by his daughters, Joyce R. Finch and husband Mike, Patricia Anne Delpine and husband Gary, sons, John K Huff, Jr. and wife Judy, Stephen H Huff and wife Virginia, grandson, R. Hudson Hallenbeck and wife Karen, great granddaughter, Morgane F. Hallenbeck, and granddaughter, Julie Rowland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. John will be interred in the family cemetery in his beloved hometown, Luling, Texas on Thursday, June 30, at noon.
