

John Herman Jongebloed, Sr., our beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, was reunited with his adored daughter Nikol, his parents and his Almighty Father, on Tuesday, the 2nd of February 2010. He was 68.John was born on the 27th of October 1941, in Mobile, Alabama, to Nick and Mathilda Norman Jongebloed. He graduated from McGill High School with a football scholarship to the University of Houston along with his identical twin brother James. John received a degree in engineering from the University of Houston, and was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He then went on to receive a law degree from the South Texas College of Law and joined the Texas Bar Association.At the time of his illness he was serving as a Vice President of Valmont Newmark Industries, Inc. He was highly respected in the structural pole business throughout the country. John was a gentle soul who was always kind and beloved by all his nieces and nephews who fondly refer to him as “Uncle Johnny.” He was immensely proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending the various sports and arts activities in which they participated. Johnny loved his children and grandchildren dearly and was enveloped in their love during the last year of his life, as he endured extensive medical care.He is survived by his loving daughter Tyler and granddaughter Carson, and his son John II, and grandson Cole. He is also survived by his grandson David Minatra III; his brothers, Jim and his wife Renee, Joe and his wife Suzie, and Nick and his wife Dottie; and his sister Liz Russell and her husband Joe.Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from two until five o’clock this afternoon, Sunday, the 7th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, where a recital of the Holy Rosary, to be led by Deacon Jack Alexander, is to commence at four o’clock.A funeral mass is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 8th of February, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, the where Rev. Msgr. Frank H. Rossi, S.T.L., is to serve as celebrant.Immediately following the funeral mass, all are invited to join the family for a reception in the adjacent Parish Hall.In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in John’s name may be directed to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, at P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210-4486.
