Johnnie Lee Stewart better known as "Shorty," was born February 28, 1934 in Rose Hill, Texas. His parents, Allen and Sally Mae Stewart had ten children, and Shorty was the middle child. Allen and Sally Mae raised a musically gifted family, and at an early age Shorty learned how to play the guitar by ear. The seed of Christianity was planted in the Church of God In Christ. This seed produced every fruit of the spirt demonstrated in his everyday life. In him, the spirit of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control grew and flourished. Proverbs 18:22 says, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." Shorty was joined in Holy Matrimony to Addie Pearl Stewart on June 6, 1956, and this union produced three children. Thus leaving to mourn is his loving wife of fifty eight years Addie Pearl Stewart, his daughter; Johnnie Pearl Stewart (Peaches), son; Reginald Wayne (Ricky) Stewart, son; Damon Earl Stewart (Rocky). Cherishing his memory, are ten Grandchildren; Latreca Whitfield, Rischad Whitfield, Anthony Simpson, Keyana Shante Stewart-Walker, Nakisha Neal, Brandon Jackson, , LaToya Green, Megan Cossey, Damon Stewart, and Ashley Stewart. Caring on his legacy, are thirteen Great Grandchildren. Ranging from ages six months to twenty one years. On the morning of January 17, 2015 God commissioned Shorty's Guardian Angels to come down and bring him up to Heaven. There he will be reunited with his mother, father, sisters and brothers who have preceded him in death. Fear not friends, for the scripture says, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." He was a good man, devoted to family and a true blessing to everyone he encountered throughout his entire life. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, friends and other family to whom he loved greatly. Services to Celebrate the Life of "Shorty" will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Pilgrim Branch Baptist Church 16813 Hufsmith-Kohrville Rd., Houston, Texas 77070. The viewing will begin at 10:00am, followed by Life Celebration at 11:00am. Elder Freddie Solomon, Officiant; Pastor Herman Pickens, Eulogist. Interment: Amos Cemetery
