On February 22, 2021, Johnny Joe Arias, Jr, 44 years old, passed away in Humble, Texas. Johnny was born in Houston on September 28, 1976. When he was 8 years old, he and his younger siblings moved to San Antonio, where he played a significant role in their upbringing. Johnny graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1996. He often commented that he was surprised he graduated at all. At 19, Johnny moved back to Houston. In 2018, he attended Fortis College for heating and air conditioning repair.
Upon returning to Houston, Johnny began a career in the dirt and sand business, working with his grandfather, from 1996 until 2010. It was his grandfather who taught him how to be the best in the business. In 2010, he worked with Wesson Sand until 2017 when he retired due to declining health.
In life, Johnny loved his pit bulls and bully dogs and was an advocate for animal rescue. He loved to grill for his family, look at low-riders and classic cars, listen to Motown, classic ’80s, old school hip hop, and Tejano TexMex music. He loved to watch horror movies, classic 80’s movies, and gangster films. Johnny loved to learn anything he could about gangsters and could give any detail on any of them that were from the 1920s to the 1960s. He especially liked Al Capone and John Gotti; he loved the way they dressed. In addition to his gangster knowledge, he was a master of knowledge of heavy machinery.
Johnny is preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife Karen Fowler-Arias of Humble, Texas, his parents Johnny Arias, Sr and Irma Marin of Rosenberg, his daughters Abigail Rosemarie, Annabella May and his son Joseph Daniel and their mother, Alexandra Hernandez Arias of Pasadena, his sister Selina Arias Quintanilla of San Antonio, his brother Gabriel Arias of Rosenberg, and extended family. In addition to his immediate family, Johnny is survived by his mother-in-law, Judy Fowler, and sister-in-law, Cindy Fowler of Newburgh, Indiana.
Johnny had a heart and soul that were larger than the world and can't be matched; he was gentle, kind, thoughtful and generous to everyone who knew him and everyone he ever met. He had a smile that would light up the room; it can never be matched. Johnny was an incredibly great man, brother, husband, and father. Johnny was very deeply loved by his friends and family. He will be missed immensely beyond words.
Donations can be made, in Johnny’s name, to an animal rescue of choice; The American Kidney Foundation (kidneyfund.org) or The American Diabetes Foundation (diabetes.org)
