Jonathan Ray Henry (49) passed away at MD Anderson hospital on September 18, 2020 in Houston, TX after a 3 ½ year courageous battle with both, lymphoma and HLH. Jon was born in Houston, TX to Philip Ray Henry and Ann Ray Toman Henry on January 13, 1971.
Jon attended Lamar Consolidated High School and began his college education at Stephen F. Austin University, then transferred to Texas A&M University and graduated a true Aggie in 1994 with a BBA in Finance. Jon loved all Aggie traditions and experiences, and took road trips to College Station whenever he could. Jon had natural kindness and compassion. After only a brief hello when meeting Jon, he would make a genuine connection and you felt like you had a friend you could count on for life. Jon had more friends than anyone could imagine and he was a true friend in all respects. He maintained close friendships with his buddies from childhood, high school, college, and work colleagues, as well as friends he made as an adult. Jon was that favorite guy for everyone. Jon never missed an opportunity to stop, roll down the car window, to wave and chat with everyone he noticed. In school, he was voted Most Handsome, Best Personality, Homecoming King and Mr. LHS. If you ask anyone who knew Jon, even briefly, the words to describe Jon are: loyal, dedicated, kind, sweet, loving, trusting, honorable, honest, moral, ethical, respectable, upstanding, faithful, dependable, exceptional and extraordinary, just to name a few. He was one-of-a-kind and will be missed immeasurably by his family and so many, many friends and acquaintances. Jon really enjoyed dancing and was a wonderful dancing partner. The ladies lined up to have a chance to dance with him. While out dancing in 1994 he asked Ginny to dance. They were best friends, and then parents to two beautiful children, Vivien (15) and Maverick (12). To say Jon was proud of Vivien and Maverick is an understatement. His family and children were his pride and joy, and Jon loved being a dad. He was the absolute best dad. What a world we would have if everyone had a dad like Jon. Jon’s profession was in sales in the telecommunications industry. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and golf. Jon loved getting together with his family and relatives to celebrate any and all occasions. Jon enjoyed league basketball and volleyball games whenever possible. Jon also loved to play poker and join his childhood and college friends at social events whenever he could. Jon will be remembered as a loving husband, awesome father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and great friend by those he left behind.
Jon is survived by Ginny Glynn (wife); Vivien Henry (daughter); Maverick Henry (son); Ann Henry Dittrich (mother) and husband Forest; Chris Glynn, Sr. (father-in-law) and wife Pam; Jay Henry (brother) and wife Kim and their children Paige and Meg; Jill Conn (sister) and her children Keaton and Kylie; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as a brother and sister-in-law and nine nieces and nephews on Ginny’s side; Jon was preceded in death by Philip Ray Henry (father); and Ella Jane Stanton Glynn (mother-in-law).
